Playa Camaron/Playa Gaviotas

Two of a Kind

As the major stars of the resort city of Mazatlan, high-spirited Playa Gaviotas and its calmer counterpart, Playa Camaron, boast luxury resorts, incomparable eats, swinging nightlife and long, relaxing days in the sand.

Being located right smack in the middle of the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone)—the hippest, most happening place in Mazatlan—certainly helps the two beaches build such a reputation. But then there’s the warm, calm waters and the seductive sunsets that add to the beaches’ allure.

Taking in the Sights

Get to know both beaches by strolling the sand, starting from the tip of Playa Camaron to the north, and heading south past the high-rise hotels in Playa Gaviotas.

When you reach the end, you’ll be at the Malecón, the seaside promenade where locals and tourists enjoy walking, jogging and biking while getting awesome views of mountains in the distance.

These two beaches offer all kinds of water sports activities, including windsurfing, parasailing and bodyboarding, to name just a few.

Splashing around in the waves for a few hours can build up your appetite, but no problem—the Golden Zone is home to some amazing eateries boasting tons of culinary options for hungry travelers. Joe’s Oyster Bar is a favorite with its two-for-one drinks specials all day.

Evening Excitement

Later on, after spending some time admiring the awe-inspiring sunset, you’ll want to catch a bit of the nightlife action. Valentino’s is quite a sight with its bright, castle-like exterior and loud rhythms.

For something more low-key, head to one of the cafes along Avenida Camarón Sábalo, a long stretch of businesses ready to impress visitors.
