Laid-Back Northern Beach Haven

A killer combination of a scenic beachfront, shallow water and out-of-this-world food make up famed Rum Point, a shining jewel among Caribbean beaches. Here, visitors laze around in hammocks under the shade of palms or casuarina trees, sipping the island’s best-known cocktail, the Mudslide. This creamy, chocolaty concoction is rumored to have been created in Rum Point. Head over to the Wreck Bar to get a taste of this authentic island treat.

What to Do

The pure, pool-like water at Rum Point will tempt kids and adults alike, and makes this area of the Caymans a great spot for snorkeling. Beachside rentals let you experience the best water sports in the area, and diving excursions can get you to the North Wall and East End, both spectacular places to see underwater life.

Don’t skip a trip out to Stingray City, a series of shallow sandbars where you can meet and greet friendly stingrays and schools of colorful tropical fish. Want to get to know the surrounding area better? Head to the Bodden Town Guardhouse Park or the historic Mission House, an 18th-century example of yesteryear in the Cayman Islands.

Dining

Back on the beachfront, reserve a spot at one of the restaurants offering great views of the ocean, or drive to nearby eateries along the north coast. You can choose from local classics like fresh seafood dishes and jerk pork, or see what’s on the menu at restaurants serving other international and eclectic options. After dinner, walk along the white-sand beach and enjoy the soothing sunset and tropical vista, or head to the end of the short dock to get a full view of this remarkable paradise.
