Sweet Siesta

Siesta Key, a barrier island on the southwestern coast of Florida, probably doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves.

For those who crave the quintessential beach experience, Siesta Key answers the call by offering a 2.5-mile white-sand beach surrounded by an enchanting town full of museums, art galleries, theaters, restaurants and cafes.

Charming Vibe

Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, Siesta Key Beach is recognized among the best beaches not only in the Sunshine State, but in the nation. Steve Leatherman (Dr. Beach) named Siesta Key Beach No. 1 among the nation’s top beaches in 2015, and it has also been honored with a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award.

This beach draws visitors with opportunities to kayak, jet ski, fish or sail, but if you prefer to spend your time near the sand, there are tennis and beach volleyball courts, as well as a playground for the kids to run wild and free.

If the sun gets to be a bit much, stroll into colorful Siesta Key Village, where you’ll find cafes and bars buzzing with activity. Downtown Sarasota, too, offers a variety of dining and nightlife options.

Facilities and Options

If you plan to spend an entire day soaking up the sun, no problem. Siesta Key Beach has public restrooms, a snack bar and even showers. Bring some snacks and set up at one of the public picnic areas. Larger parties can get together under the shade of a gazebo.

One of Siesta Key’s best features is its range of accommodations, from family-friendly resorts and cottages to condos with every amenity you can imagine.

With such variety, you can plan a vacation just to your tastes, whether you’re traveling with kids or hoping to escape it all.
