Best Beaches in Montego Bay

1. Doctor's Cave Beach

What the Doctor Ordered

One of the most popular beaches in Jamaica with a prime location in Montego Bay, Doctor's Cave Beach continues to draw sun-loving travelers year after year. As private property, Doctor's Cave Beach does charge a small fee to enter—$6 for adults and $3 for children. But in exchange, you get a clean, safe beach with bathroom facilities and lifeguards, and all the ocean views you could ask for.

A little background: In the late 1800s, Doctor's Cave Beach was the exclusive property of Dr. Alexander James McCatty, who would often invite his physician friends over to enjoy his personal paradise. The cave that once marked the entrance to the beach has now collapsed, but the name stuck. Nowadays, it's synonymous with good times in the heart of a dynamic Jamaican destination.

Land and Water Activities

With the coral reef not far from shore, snorkeling opportunities abound. You can rent snorkeling gear from a beachside vendor and hit the water to catch a glimpse of tropical fish and other marine life. There are also plenty of opportunities to try other water activities, such as jet-skiing and parasailing, or to take a ride on a glass-bottom boat. If you prefer to simply recline and enjoy the sunshine and palm trees, rent a beach chair and umbrella instead.

Restaurants and Nightlife

Choose from a broad range of dining options along Gloucester Avenue, coined the "Hip Strip," a collection of restaurants, bars and clubs that brings major crowds every night. Though it can get quite busy and rowdy here at times, it's worth a visit if you're seeking late-night revelry.
