Best Beaches in Ocho Rios

1. Turtle Beach

Loved by Locals and Tourists

The quaint village of Ocho Rios, located on the north coast of Jamaica, is home to Turtle Beach (also called Ocho Rios Bay Beach), a sandy spot loved by locals and tourists alike. Cruise ships stop here, bringing excited beachgoers who can't wait to go for a dip in the warm, clear waters or spend a sunny day in the beach's golden sands.

Like many other popular beaches in Jamaica, Turtle Beach can get crowded, but its lively, light-hearted energy is more of an attraction than a deterrent.

Be aware that there is a small fee to enter Turtle Beach, but having access to facilities like showers and restrooms is worth the nominal cost.

Daytime Activities

When you arrive at the beach, rent a chair and umbrella in a comfy spot, or find some shade under an almond tree or a palm tree. Look out on the water and you'll see many water sports enthusiasts having a blast.

If you decide to join them, you can rent equipment from a local vendor. Jet-skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking are especially popular here.

Later, get a true taste of Jamaica at one of the beachfront bars, or head to lush Island Village, an open-air shopping and entertainment complex where you can pick up some souvenirs or just grab a seat and sip a cocktail.

Enjoying the Area

Ocho Rios was once a fishing village, but the late-night vibe here seems far removed from the area's quiet past. Partygoers drift between beachside bars, or spend the late night hours getting down at one of a handful of nightclubs.

Not in the party mood? Get a good night's rest instead, and then get up early in the morning and check out nearby attractions like Columbus Park Museum, rumored to be the arrival spot for Columbus during one of his expeditions.
