Flights to Saint John’s

On the west coast of Antigua, nearly 9 miles from the capital city of St. John's, lies tranquil Ffryes Beach. Travelers don't make the trip to this beach to party, let loose or dance long into the night.

Ffryes is a scenic escape stripped down to the bare essentials: luscious sand, heavenly, calm waters and an immaculate landscape.

It's a place to lay down your beach towel and take in deep blue hues and the smell of the sea. On clear days, you might even get a view of the nearby island of Montserrat.

Be aware: There is no shade here and no restrooms. You can purchase a cold drink or a snack from the local snack bar, but you'll need to bring your own food to enjoy while you listen to the waves lap at the shore.

Those who don't mind the short walk up the hill can head up to Dennis Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, which boasts amazing coastal views along with culinary favorites like grilled lobster, garlic shrimp, steak and pork chops, among other international and local options. Hit them up during Happy Hour (4:30-6:00) to enjoy an afternoon libation.

Ffryes Beach, located between Coco Beach and Darkwood Beach, is quite easy to find, and there is ample parking. After a day of relaxation on the beach, head to the nearby Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, or to the Casino at Jolly Beach, located in Jolly Harbour, the quaint Caribbean village just a mile and a half from Ffryes Beach.

At the Jolly Harbour complex, you can grab a drink, get a bite to eat or play a game of golf. Local tour operators can also arrange for you to visit some of the island's other natural attractions.
