Cote d’Azur Favorite

One of several public beaches along Nice’s Mediterranean coast, Beau Rivage boasts a pebbled shoreline, amazing ocean views and easy access to the town’s best attractions, including the miles-long Promenade des Anglais and the historic Old Town sector. The beach is flanked by verdant mountains and backed by ornate, pastel-colored buildings in Belle Epoque style.

(Free) Beach Bliss

Beau Rivage Beach is free for the public to visit, though there aren’t any public facilities or lifeguards. Though it can be pricey, dining at the on-site Beau Rivage restaurant is a great option for those wanting a full day to bask in a sun lounger and eat and drink to their hearts’ content. Like most restaurants along the beach, this establishment offers restrooms and showers, plus towels, chairs and umbrellas for a fee.

If you decide to forgo the restaurant experience, just remember to bring a towel and swim shoes — the large pebbles can make for an uncomfortable time on the beach and in the water for the unprepared.

Shop and Dine

As a premier French Riviera destination, Nice is brimming with architectural and historic sites, plus markets, open-air restaurants and lush parks. Be sure to leave time to visit sites like the Avenue Jean Medecin commercial thoroughfare, the Place Messina central plaza and pedestrian Rue Massena, home to a cluster of restaurants and shops.

For amazing scenery, head to the hillside Castle Park, home of the ruins of the Chateau de Nice and host of the daily cannon shot, a midday tradition since the 1800s.
