Best Beaches in Isla Mujeres
1. Playa Norte
Located about 8 miles from the Yucatan Peninsula is Isla Mujeres, a delightful white-sand island that offers incredible snorkeling and diving, as well as calm, shallow waters that create a heavenly pool.
Chief among this island's beaches is Playa Norte, or North Beach, and its breezy, relaxed pace is a welcome change from the wilder atmosphere in nearby Cancun.
Biggest DrawsYou'd be crazy not to go snorkeling or diving here. Several reefs are located just off the island; book an excursion to get to the best spots.
You won't want to miss the Underwater Museum of Art, home to specially made human-like sculptures that act as artificial reefs to relieve the real reefs from heavy traffic and damage. In the hot summer months, whale shark tours from official operators are a huge draw; they get you close enough to see these fascinating creatures.
Dining, Drinks, DancingSome of Isla Mujeres' finest restaurants and bars are located on lively Miguel Hidalgo Street and the surrounding avenues, but don't discount the awesome fare available from streetside food carts. You might end up having the best taco of your life.
In the evening hours, continue the good times with some bar-hopping along Hidalgo, or hunker down at one location to take advantage of excellent drink deals. Cancun is but a short boat ride away if you want the full-on nightlife experience, but some would say the more subdued atmosphere on Isla Mujeres is just right.
