Best Beaches in Tortola
1. White Bay Beach
Just as turtles and other wildlife are often lured to a certain shore, boaters flock to White Bay Beach, anchor offshore and swim to the banks of this sandy expanse, as if through ritual.
What's the draw? First, White Bay Beach is one of island's the most beautiful beaches—its clean, white sands, and lush hillside backdrop make it an idyllic tropical playground.
But there's more to it than that; vacationers come to party at one of the several beachside bars and eateries, or simply to kick back, relax and watch people gather for a fun afternoon.
Partiers' DelightAll over the island, White Bay Beach is known as the primary place to see and be seen. Hundreds of anchored boats bob in the gentle waves just offshore.
But some people find the atmosphere here just a bit too rowdy. Blame it on the famous "Painkiller" cocktails served at the most well-known establishment here, Soggy Dollar Bar, named after the wet bills patrons use after they've wandered in from the water.
TipsIf it's peace and quiet you want, come by early in the morning before the crowds arrive, or stick around till afternoon, when most people have finished their day trip to the area.
You can also simply venture to a quieter end of the beach, away from the day-time drinking activity. And if you find yourself unable to resist the turquoise waters, take a swim or rent some snorkel gear and explore the reef—just beware of boat traffic.
